Nominees for February’s Fan Player of the Month in the Liberty A-League
The nominees for February’s Fan Player of the Month award in the Liberty A-League have been announced. Ten players are selected each month based on their performance according to the Opta Index for fans to vote on.
The season began with Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Rylee Foster claiming the honours for October/November and December. In January, Western United’s Hillary Beall took the title before moving back to San Diego Wave.
The nominees for January have been revealed, with Sasha Grove from Canberra United ranking 10th with a form index of 72.0. Izzy Nino of Newcastle Jets follows in 9th place with an index of 72.3.
Kyah Simon from Central Coast Mariners secures the 8th spot, Courtney Newbon from Melbourne Victory comes in 7th, and Melissa Barbieri from Melbourne City ranks 6th.
Cortnee Vine of Sydney FC claims the 5th position, while Nickoletta Flannery and Michelle Heyman, both from Canberra United, take 4th and 3rd place, respectively. Sarina Bolden of Newcastle Jets lands in 2nd place.
The top spot for January’s Fan Player of the Month goes to Emily Gielnik from Melbourne Victory, with an impressive form index of 87.7.
The Opta Index is used to determine player performance based on various statistics like shooting, passing, and defending. Players are ineligible for the award if they have received a Direct Red Card or are suspended due to disciplinary reasons according to the A-League Women Disciplinary Regulations.
Fans can cast their votes for the Fan Player of the Month via the A-Leagues social media channels. The winner will be announced soon.
