As the K League 1 season heads towards its conclusion, the focus on the title race has been intense, but equally gripping is the battle at the bottom of the table. The relegation fight is heating up, with just a few points separating the bottom five teams. With only four matches remaining before the league splits into two, teams like Gwangju FC, Jeju United, Daejeon Hana Citizen, Incheon United, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, and Daegu FC are all at risk. One of these teams will face automatic relegation, while two others will enter playoffs to battle for survival.
In recent weeks, these struggling teams have managed to pull off unexpected victories, defeating higher-ranked opponents, which has made the relegation race even more unpredictable. Daegu’s recent performances, for example, saw them win two consecutive matches, but they faltered against Incheon United, losing 2-1 despite leading at halftime. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors managed a hard-fought 0-0 draw against a strong FC Seoul side, showing resilience in their bid to escape relegation.
With such tight margins and unpredictable outcomes, the remaining fixtures will be crucial. Teams must maintain their focus and form, with tough schedules ahead, as they fight to avoid the dreaded drop to K League 2.
