Indonesian Team Faces Personnel Setback Ahead of Rematch Against Vietnam
After securing a 1-0 win against Philippe Troussier’s squad at Gelora Bung Karno, the Tim Garuda squad faced a setback as they geared up for their upcoming match at My Dinh. The team found themselves in a tough spot as a total of five key players were sidelined due to a bout of fever.
Among the missing players were Ivar Jenner, Rafael Struick, Nadeo Argawinata, Muhammad Riyandi, and Sandy Walsh. To address the absence of goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata, coach Shin Tae-yong had to take swift action by arranging for Ernando Ari to fly in on a private jet, ensuring his presence in Hanoi for the clash against Vietnam.
Indonesia’s President, Erick Thohir, openly acknowledged the team’s personnel struggles in a recent statement. Thohir highlighted the impact of the illness on the squad, stating, “I announce that 5 Indonesian players have fever. It may be due to the change in weather. We can see that some players playing abroad cannot easily adapt to the Indonesian weather. Like Nathan Tjoe-A-On yesterday, he was not in the best condition.”
Expressing hope for the players’ swift recovery ahead of the crucial face-off with the Vietnamese side, Thohir left the decision regarding their availability to coach Shin Tae-yong and the medical staff.
As the match looms large, the Indonesian team faces a race against time to regain full strength and fitness. The absence of key players due to illness serves as a significant blow, testing the squad’s resilience and depth as they prepare to take on a formidable opponent in Vietnam.
With the president acknowledging the challenges faced by the team and the uncertainty surrounding the availability of the affected players, all eyes will be on the Tim Garuda squad as they strive to overcome adversity and deliver a strong performance in their upcoming match against Vietnam.
