FIFA extends PFF Normalisation Committee’s mandate by nine months
FIFA has extended the mandate of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalisation Committee by nine months, now set to expire on December 15, 2024. Despite criticism for irregularities, the NC aims to complete the electoral process. The Council discussed the delay in elections due to club registration complexities. Progress has been made with 85% club scrutiny completed, and the NC hopes for fair and transparent elections by the year-end.
Led by Haroon Malik, the NC has faced backlash for its slow electoral progress. Speculation of committee changes arose as the NC has yet to hold PFF elections since 2019. Formerly under Hamza Khan, the NC faltered, while Haroon focused on national team engagements over domestic leagues like the Premier League.
The NC has initiated district elections and could conduct PFF elections within six months. However, FIFA’s generosity granted a nine-month extension, addressing concerns over electoral transparency. The decision was made during the FIFA Council meeting, signalling progress towards a democratically elected PFF setup by the end of the year.
Critics point to the NC’s oversight of domestic competitions in contrast to past PFF leadership. Despite challenges, stakeholders urge for timely and transparent elections to revitalize Pakistani football. The extension reflects FIFA’s commitment to guiding the normalization process to its rightful conclusion.
