Foolad edges past Nassaji 1-0 in PGPL match

Foolad secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nassaji in the latest match of the Iran’s Persian Gulf Pro League (PGPL) on Wednesday. Sasan Ansari netted the decisive goal in the 16th minute at the Foolad Arena in Ahvaz. The hosts managed to capitalize on their early lead despite the visitors’ efforts to equalize.

Nassaji faced further adversity when Mahmoud Ghaed Rahmati received a red card in the 73rd minute, leaving them with 10 players for the remainder of the game. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Nassaji continued to push forward, but Foolad’s defense held firm to secure all three points.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Zob Ahan and Gol Gohar played out a goalless draw, with both teams unable to break the deadlock. The result saw them share the points, leaving them with mixed feelings as they aim to climb higher in the league table.

With the PGPL now on hold due to the upcoming 2023 AFC Asian Cup, teams will have time to regroup and prepare for the resumption of the league competition. Esteghlal currently sit at the top of the table with 32 points, closely followed by Sepahan with 31 points and Persepolis with 30 points.
