Newcastle Jets Sign Socceroos Centre-back Aleksandar Šušnjar on Two-Year Deal
Newcastle Jets have secured another significant addition to their squad in preparation for the upcoming Australia Hyundai A League season. The team has finalized a two-year deal with Socceroos centre-back Aleksandar Šušnjar, who previously featured in 21 matches for Perth Glory. This signing marks the Jets’ third acquisition during the off-season, following the arrivals of Eli Adams from Melbourne Victory and young winger Oscar Fryer from Sydney FC’s academy.
“I can’t wait to get into Newcastle and start training,” expressed Šušnjar upon sealing his contract. “I’m eager to make my mark on this squad and work alongside Rob Stanton and the coaching staff.”
Head coach Rob Stanton emphasized that Šušnjar’s addition bolsters the Jets’ defensive line, which saw notable departures like Carl Jenkinson, Jason Hoffman, and Lucas Mauragis. Stanton praised Šušnjar’s experience, quality, and physical presence, stating that the 28-year-old brings a much-needed element to the team.
Šušnjar’s diverse career includes stints in various countries, such as Lithuania, Romania, Czechia, Slovakia, and South Korea, in addition to his time with Macarthur FC and Perth Glory. His arrival in the Hunter region represents another chapter in his intriguing football journey.
