Isuzu UTE A-League duo Lucas Mauragis and Keegan Jelacic named in Subway Olyroos squad 2024 U23 Asian Cup squad
Isuzu UTE A-League players Lucas Mauragis and Keegan Jelacic have been selected to join the Subway Olyroos squad for the upcoming 2024 U23 Asian Cup in Qatar. The Melbourne City loanee Marco Tilio will miss the tournament due to a quad injury, with Jelacic taking his place while Jets’ Mauragis steps in for Louis D’Arrigo, who is unavailable due to club commitments in Poland.
The squad, which also includes players from various A-League clubs such as Macarthur FC, Western Sydney Wanderers, and Melbourne Victory, has gathered in Doha to prepare for their Group A matches against Jordan, Indonesia, and the host nation Qatar.
A top-three finish in the tournament would secure the Olyroos a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the fourth-placed team set to compete in a play-off match for the final qualification place.
Olyroos head coach Tony Vidmar expressed his disappointment at the last-minute changes to the squad but welcomed Mauragis and Jelacic into the team, highlighting Mauragis’ recent contributions and calling his inclusion a well-deserved reward.
The Subway Olyroos squad consists of promising young talents from various A-League clubs, showcasing the depth of talent present in Australian football. With the hopes of securing a place in the upcoming Olympics, the team is gearing up for a competitive campaign at the U23 Asian Cup, ready to showcase their skills on the international stage.
