The 2023-24 Liberty A-League Finals Series is here, with six teams competing for Championship glory. Melbourne City clinched the Premiership in a nail-biting finish over Sydney FC, setting the stage for an exciting Finals Series.

This season marks a milestone with a full home-and-away regular season featuring 12 teams, resulting in an expanded Finals Series to include six clubs. Melbourne City, Sydney FC, Western United, Melbourne Victory, Central Coast Mariners, and Newcastle Jets are all vying for the Championship title.

The Finals Series structure features seven games across four weeks, culminating in the Grand Final on May 4. Melbourne City and Sydney FC secured spots in the Semi-Finals, while the first week sees Western United hosting Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory taking on Central Coast Mariners in the Elimination Finals.

In a twist for this season’s Semi-Finals, Sydney FC and Melbourne City opted to play the first leg away and the return leg at home. There is no away goals rule in the Semi-Finals, with a potential penalty shootout to decide a winner if teams remain tied after extra time.

In the first Elimination Final on April 13, Western United face off against Newcastle Jets, with the match taking place at the Regional Football Facility in Tarneit. Melbourne Victory meets Central Coast Mariners on April 14 at the Home of the Matildas.

Melbourne City’s dramatic Premiership win saw them claim the top spot on the final day of the season, with key players like Hannah Wilkinson and Daniela Galic leading the charge. Sydney FC, under head coach Ante Juric, aims to bounce back after narrowly missing out on the Premiership.

Western United, led by Kat Smith, will look to overcome key injuries and regain momentum in the Finals Series. Melbourne Victory, with coach Jeff Hopkins at the helm, prepares to face Central Coast Mariners in an Elimination Final where defender Emma Checker aims to go out on a high.

Central Coast Mariners, making a strong return to the A-League, have impressed under Emily Husband’s coaching, led by standout performances from Kyah Simon and Sarina Bolden. Lastly, Newcastle Jets, rejuvenated under Ryan Campbell, finished strong in the regular season, with players like Cassidy Davis and Melina Ayres ready to make an impact in the Finals Series.

The stage is set for an action-packed Finals Series as these six teams vie for the Liberty A-League Championship, promising thrilling matches and potential upsets along the way. Stay tuned for the knockout action unfolding in the coming weeks.
