Vietnamese National Team Seeks New Coach After Troussier Departure
The Vietnamese national team has bid farewell to coach Philippe Troussier following a string of disappointing results, prompting the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to begin the search for a new leader for the Golden Star Warriors.
Two potential candidates for the coaching position, Velizar Popov and Kiatisuk Senamuang, have both expressed their commitment to their current clubs rather than taking on the national team role. Popov emphasized the importance of domestic talent, citing strong coaches in clubs like Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, and Khanh Hoa.
Similarly, Senamuang expressed gratitude to Vietnamese fans for their support and his enjoyment of working in Vietnam, but reiterated his focus on his responsibilities at Hanoi Police. The coach stressed the need for a deep understanding of Vietnamese football and steady progress towards international competition for the national team.
In a recent V-League 2023/24 match between Thanh Hoa and Hanoi Police, the police team ended a three-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over the home side. Goals from Jeferson Elias in the 67th minute and Phan Van Duc in stoppage time secured the win for the representatives of the police sector.
As the coaching saga continues for the Vietnamese national team, the focus remains on finding a candidate who can navigate the complexities of Vietnamese football while guiding the team to higher levels of competition. Stay tuned for updates as VFF evaluates potential leaders to steer the Golden Star Warriors to success on the continental stage.
