Match Recap: SLNA Holds Hai Phong to Goalless Draw in V-League 2023/24
After a two-week break for the Vietnamese team’s matches, Song Lam Nghe An hosted Hai Phong at Vinh Stadium for the 14th round of V-League 2023/24. Despite being the guests, Hai Phong dominated possession early on but struggled to find the back of the net against goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, who put in a stellar performance thwarting their attempts.
On the flip side, SLNA opted for a deep defensive strategy, looking to capitalize on quick counter-attacks. However, both teams’ forwards lacked the cutting edge needed to break the deadlock, resulting in a goalless first half.
The second half saw SLNA coach Phan Nhu Thuat make two key substitutions with Dang Quang Tu and Tran Manh Quynh injecting energy into the team. Hai Phong had their chances, but Nguyen Dinh Trieu stood tall in goal, making crucial saves to keep the visitors at bay. Despite both teams creating opportunities, the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
With this result, Hai Phong sits 9th in the standings with 15 points, just ahead of SLNA in 10th place with 14 points. The stalemate reflected the teams’ struggles in front of goal, leaving both coaches with work to do in sharpening their attacking prowess.
SLNA lined up with Nguyen Van Viet, Le Van Thanh, Tran Dinh Hoang, Olaha Michael Onyedikachi, Phan Van Quyen, Phan Xuan Dai, Mai Sy Hoang, Dang Van Lam, Akwa Raphael Success, and Mario Zebic. On the other hand, Hai Phong featured Nguyen Dinh Trieu, Dang Van Toi, Goncalves Silva Lucas Vinicius, Nguyen Van Dat, Pham Trung Hieu, Le Manh Dung, Bicou Bissainthe, Nguyen Huu Son, Nguyen Tuan Anh, and Trieu Viet Hung.
The match ended in a deadlock, with both teams sharing the points in what was a hard-fought contest where neither side could find the breakthrough. Fans will hope for more excitement and goals in the upcoming fixtures as the V-League season progresses.
