Talented Vietnamese-origin midfielder Do Chung Nguyen impresses in Europe

Vietnam’s search for talented Vietnamese-origin players to bolster the national team continues, with midfielder Do Chung Nguyen emerging as a promising prospect. The 18-year-old has been making waves in Europe, particularly in the Bulgarian National Championship playing for Slavia Sofia Club.

In a recent match against Lok Sofia, Chung Nguyen’s introduction in the 33rd minute proved pivotal as he showcased his technical skills and creativity on the field. His contribution helped Slavia Sofia secure a 2-1 victory, securing a 10th place finish in Bulgaria’s top league and a shot at competing in the Europa Conference League play-off next season.

Having made four appearances for Slavia Sofia, Chung Nguyen has impressed as a central midfielder with his passing abilities and game control. His two assists for Bulgaria U17 in the European U17 tournament further highlight his potential on the pitch.

Bulgarian coach Velizar Popov has lauded Chung Nguyen as one of the brightest talents in Bulgarian football, hinting at a possible call-up to the national team in the near future. This recognition underscores the youngster’s growing reputation in the European football scene.

As interest in Chung Nguyen grows, Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) faces competition from the Bulgarian Football Federation in securing his services. The youngster’s heritage and skill set have piqued the interest of both nations, setting the stage for a potential tug-of-war over his international allegiance.

With the prospect of representing either Bulgaria or Vietnam on the horizon, Chung Nguyen’s rise in European football presents an exciting opportunity for both countries. His development and eventual decision on national team allegiance will undoubtedly be closely monitored by football enthusiasts and national team selectors alike.
