The Vietnamese Team Gathers with Focus on Nguyen Cong Phuong’s Call-Up
The Vietnamese national football team has commenced their training sessions starting today, March 13th. Of particular interest to fans is the inclusion of striker Nguyen Cong Phuong in the squad, despite his limited playing time at Yokohama FC lately. Even as his club faced relegation to the J2 League, Cong Phuong found himself left out of the matchday squads for the first three games of the 2024 season.
In response to his call-up by coach Philippe Troussier, former Hoang Anh Gia Lai standout shared his thoughts, emphasizing the honor and joy of representing the national team. Cong Phuong, reflecting on his time in Japan, highlighted the benefits of training in a competitive environment and the importance of adapting to the coach’s tactics.
With the 2023/24 National Cup 1/8 round fixtures delaying the team’s full assembly until March 15th, Troussier and his players are making the most of their limited training time in Hanoi before departing for Indonesia on March 19th. Two additional training sessions are scheduled in Indonesia before the crucial match against the home team at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on March 21st, with a capacity of 80,000 spectators.
Following this match, the team will return to Vietnam on March 22nd to prepare for the rematch against Indonesia on March 26th at My Dinh National Stadium. Coach Troussier is focused on fine-tuning his squad for these challenging fixtures, aiming for a successful campaign in the upcoming matches. The rigorous training sessions and tactical preparations will play a crucial role in the team’s performance as they aim for victory on the international stage.
As the Vietnamese team gears up for these important fixtures, the fans are eagerly anticipating the performances of their beloved national team players, including the likes of Nguyen Cong Phuong. The team’s preparation and determination will be put to the test as they strive for success in the upcoming matches, showcasing their skills and passion for the beautiful game.
