Vietnam National Team: Official March Squad List Released

Vietnam National Team Announces Squad for World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

After the conclusion of round 13 in V-League 2023/2024 on March 11th, coach Philippe Troussier and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) unveiled the 33-man squad set to gear up for the upcoming dual against Indonesia at the 2nd World Cup 2026. All members of this roster have previously featured in the 2023 Asian Cup and have remained loyal to the ‘White Witch,’ demonstrating their prowess in the national championship.

In the realm of goalkeeping, Nguyen Filip stands tall as the preferred choice following steady performances for CAHN. The 1992-born goalkeeper, having recently been granted Vietnamese citizenship, impressed during his debut at the 2023 Asian Cup and is expected to maintain his reliability for the Golden Star Warriors moving forward. Joining him are Nguyen Dinh Trieu and Nguyen Van Viet, both of whom excelled for Hai Phong and SLNA, with the unfortunate absence of Dang Van Lam due to injury.

The defensive line, kept intact by Coach Troussier, features stalwarts such as Phan Tuan Tai, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vo Minh Trong, Do Duy Manh, and Vu Van Thanh, alongside the return of veterans Nguyen Thanh Chung and Bui Tien Dung. However, the absence of midfielder Que Ngoc Hai due to a lingering injury is a notable setback for the Golden Star Warriors.

In the midfield department, standout V-League performer Nguyen Quang Hai, with 5 goals to his name, is poised to lead the charge against Tim Garuda. Supported by Nguyen Thai Son, Nguyen Hoang Duc, and Do Hung Dung, the midfield also sees the inclusion of Le Pham Thanh Long, Nguyen Duc Chien, Truong Tien Anh, and others. Regrettably, Nguyen Tuan Anh will miss out due to injury, depriving the team of a crucial asset.

Heading the striking contingent against Indonesia are Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Tien Linh, Nguyen Van Tung, Nham Manh Dung, Nguyen Van Toan, and Nguyen Cong Phuong, the latter earning trust despite his absence from Yokohama FC’s official matches. With the pivotal absence of Pham Tuan Hai in attack due to an ankle injury, Coach Troussier faces a significant concern leading up to the clash.

The Golden Star Warriors are set to convene for training on March 12 before embarking on their journey to Indonesia for the showdown against Tim Garuda on March 21.
