Thanh Hoa Club President Insists on Direct Dialogue with Referee

Controversies Surrounding Refereeing in the 12th Round of V-League 2023/24

The 12th round of the V-League for the 2023/24 season has been marred by controversies surrounding refereeing decisions. In a match where Thanh Hoa lost at home to Hoang Anh Gia Lai, coach Velizar Popov’s team has raised concerns about possible penalty plays and an incident where Geovane kicked Doan Ngoc Tan in the chest, only receiving a yellow card for the offense. Similarly, Song Lam Nghe An is seeking a review of the late 90+5 minute goal that led to a 1-0 victory for Nam Dinh.

Following these contentious events, Thanh Hoa Club has taken the initiative to request a direct dialogue with the referee, expressing their desire for clarity on the disputed situations from recent matches. Club president Mr. Cao Tien Doan emphasized the importance of ensuring that future matches proceed without any issues impacting the final results.

In response to the ongoing controversies, Mr. Doan highlighted the collective desire among teams like SLNA and Thanh Hoa for greater transparency and openness in the tournament. Expressing his personal views on referee management, he acknowledged that while most referees possess high professional standards and moral character, there are instances where certain officials fall short. Criticizing referees for making one-sided judgments and inconsistent use of VAR technology, Mr. Doan stressed the importance of referees exhibiting fair and unbiased decision-making throughout matches.

Regarding the role of VAR technology in officiating matches, Mr. Doan emphasized that while the technology is crucial, the judgment and decision-making ability of the VAR operator ultimately determine its effectiveness in correcting errors on the field.

As the V-League continues to unfold with its fair share of controversies and debates over refereeing decisions, clubs and officials are striving to address these issues in a constructive manner to uphold the integrity and transparency of the competition. The quest for fair play and accountability remains paramount as teams navigate the challenges of the ongoing season.
