Joe Montemurro Departs Juventus Women as Free Agent Following A-League Championship Win

Joe Montemurro, the successful head coach who led Liberty A-League to a championship victory, is now a free agent after parting ways with Juventus Women. Despite signing a contract extension in September until 2026, Juventus made the decision to end their association with the Australian coach following a 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia semi-final and being eight points behind Serie A champions Roma.

Montemurro’s tenure at Juventus saw him clinch five trophies, including a historic treble in his debut season. This marked his departure from Arsenal in 2021 to join the Italian powerhouse. Within his time at Juventus, he secured a Scudetto, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana triumphs, becoming the first foreign coach to win the league since 2000.

During his stay, Montemurro also received the prestigious Panchina D’Oro award, recognizing him as the best coach in Serie A for women’s football. Juventus released a statement praising his impact on the team, highlighting his innovative football strategies and successful results, including strong performances in the Women’s Champions League.

The club’s football director, Stefano Braghin, extended his contract until 2027 and acknowledged Montemurro’s dedication while emphasizing the need for immediate change in the club’s best interest. The focus now shifts towards a new phase in the team’s development, prioritizing competitiveness, sustainability, and the nurturing of young talents alongside experienced players.

With ambitions to maintain high-level competitiveness and secure a spot in the UWCL Group Stage for at least two years, Juventus aims to uphold its traditional standards of excellence while building towards a new era of success. As Montemurro embarks on the next chapter of his career, Juventus looks to forge a path that blends past achievements with future aspirations, ensuring a winning cycle is reborn in due time.
