Highlights from Isuzu UTE A-League clash between Macarthur FC and Melbourne City in Round 19

Macarthur FC climbed to third place on the Isuzu UTE A-League standings after a convincing 2-0 victory over Melbourne City. The breakthrough came in the second half, with Bernardo Oliveira netting twice to secure the win. His first goal capitalized on a rebound, while the second was a beautifully curled effort from inside the box.

Not to be outdone, Macarthur’s goalkeeper Filip Kurto shone in the final 15 minutes of the game, making three crucial saves to maintain a clean sheet and secure the win in the team’s 100th Isuzu UTE A-League match. Macarthur’s coach, Mile Sterjovski, praised the team’s performance and expressed confidence in their ability to push for the top spot as the season progresses.

On the other hand, Melbourne City struggled to find their form, extending their winless streak to five games. Despite a delay due to lightning strikes, City failed to convert their chances, with Macarthur dominating the game. Jamie Maclaren had a couple of opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Macarthur’s early disallowed goal didn’t deter them, as they continued to press forward and eventually broke the deadlock. Raphael Borges Rodrigues’ powerful run set up Bernardo Oliveira for the opener, followed by another goal ten minutes later as he skillfully finished off a play involving Ulises Davila.

Despite City’s attempts to claw back into the game, Kurto stood tall in goal, making crucial saves to deny any comeback hopes. His heroic efforts ensured Macarthur walked away with all three points, moving them up the ladder into a promising position.

In the end, Macarthur’s clinical finishing and solid defensive display secured a well-deserved victory, while Melbourne City’s struggles continue as they search for a much-needed turnaround to keep their finals hopes alive.
