The Absence of Doan Van Hau and Indonesia’s Concerns Ahead of World Cup Qualifying Match
The Vietnam National Team is gearing up for a crucial rematch against Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup qualifying round in Asia on March 21 after their disappointing loss at the 2023 Asian Cup. Coach Philippe Troussier’s squad has seen the return of several key players, but some key figures remain sidelined due to injuries.
One such player is Doan Van Hau, who is currently undergoing treatment for his injury in Singapore and will not be able to join the national team in March. Van Hau’s absence is a significant blow to the team, especially given his previous encounters with Indonesian players.
Indonesian media has once again focused on Van Hau’s absence, a recurring topic since the incident that led to Evan Dimas’s injury during the 2019 SEA Games. With Van Hau likely out of the upcoming match, Bola newspaper conveyed a foreboding message: “Vietnam’s formidable defender may miss the clash with Indonesia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.”
In Van Hau’s place, Vo Minh Trong has stepped up to fill the void in the left-back position. The Indonesian newspaper praised the 22-year-old’s performance, highlighting his confidence and solid play under Coach Troussier’s guidance. Minh Trong has consistently impressed and earned his spot as a regular starter for the team.
As the anticipation builds for the upcoming qualifier, Vietnam will have to make do without the services of Van Hau but can rely on the emerging talent of Vo Minh Trong to provide a formidable presence in defense. The stakes are high as both teams strive to secure a crucial victory in their quest for World Cup qualification.
