Central Coast Mariners Coaches Win January Coach of the Month Honours
Central Coast Mariners head coaches Mark Jackson and Emily Husband have been named the January Coach of the Month recipients in their respective leagues, the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Liberty A-League Women, following a fan vote.
This dual achievement marks a dominant month for the Mariners, with Husband clinching her first Coach of the Month award and Jackson securing the Isuzu UTE A-League Men honours for the second consecutive month.
The selection process for the monthly award is facilitated through the A-Leagues’ collaboration with Football Coaches Australia, with eligible coaches being nominated by a panel composed of Catherine Cannuli, Sarah West, John Kosmina, Ian Greener, and Gary Cole.
In the Isuzu UTE A-League, Jackson’s Mariners maintained an unbeaten streak of 10 games by the end of January, recording three victories and one draw in four matches. Notable wins included clean sheets against Western Sydney (1-0) and Brisbane Roar (2-0), along with a victory over Melbourne City with a scoreline of 2-1.
Competing against fellow nominees Wellington’s Giancarlo Italiano, Melbourne Victory’s Tony Popovic, and Sydney FC’s Ufuk Talay, Jackson narrowly edged Italiano by a close margin in the fan voting on A-Leagues social media platforms.
In the Liberty A-League, Emily Husband earned her first Coach of the Month accolade by guiding her team to three wins out of five matches and suffering just one defeat throughout January, including a dramatic 2-1 victory over Sydney FC where goalkeeper Sarah Langman was sent off, prompting defender Ashley Irwin to take on goalkeeping duties.
Husband’s nomination for the award placed her in competition with Western United’s Kat Smith, Melbourne City’s Dario Vidosic, and Western Sydney Wanderers coach Robbie Hooker.
The Mariners’ coaching duo has undoubtedly made their mark in the A-League landscape, with Jackson and Husband’s impressive performances being duly recognized with the Coach of the Month honors for January.
