Viettel Sports Club Faces Crisis with 0-2 Loss to Quang Nam in V-League 2023/24
Viettel Sports Club suffered another setback in their performance, losing 0-2 to Quang Nam in the 11th round of the V-League 2023/24 season. The team, based at Hang Day Stadium, has been struggling, failing to secure a victory since their win against Hoang Anh Gia Lai in December. Currently, they are precariously positioned just 2 points above the bottom of the league table.
With relegation looming as a real threat and their championship aspirations fading, Viettel The Cong Club made significant changes during the mid-season transfer window. All three foreign players, Mohamed Essam, Abdumuminov Jakhongir, and Bruno Cunha, had their contracts terminated. Egyptian player Mohamed Essam, who previously played with Mohamed Salah in the Egyptian U20 team, failed to score any goals in his 10 appearances in the V-League this season.
Abdumuminov Jakhongir, a key player for the team since joining in 2021, has seen a decline in form this season. Bruno Cunha, with only 2 goals and 1 assist, fell short of expectations after an impressive stint with Thanh Hoa in the previous season.
The team expects to introduce three new foreign players to bolster their squad soon. Coach Nguyen Duc Thang, who is yet to secure a win since taking charge, will lead the team in the upcoming match against Hai Phong Club at Lach Tray Stadium in round 12. Thang is the third coach to helm the team this season, following Thach Bao Khanh and Thomas Dooley.
Viettel The Cong Club finds themselves in a challenging position as they continue to struggle in the V-League. The upcoming matches will be crucial for the team as they aim to turn their season around and climb up the standings.
