Ulsan HD Striker Joo Min-gyu Draws Line with National Team Coach Jeong Jo-guk

Ulsan Hyundai striker Joo Min-gyu has made it clear that his relationship with national team coach Jeong Jo-guk will not be the same following Jeong’s appointment. In the ‘East Coast Derby’ against Pohang Steelers, Ulsan secured a 1-0 victory with Ataru’s goal in the second half. Joo Min-gyu, last season’s top league scorer with 17 goals, missed out on the 2023 AFC Asian Cup due to not being selected by former coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

After Klinsmann’s dismissal, Hwang Seon-hong took temporary charge of the national team. Joo Min-gyu’s rise to prominence as a striker can be attributed to Coach Jeong’s guidance, with whom he developed a close bond during their time at Jeju United. Despite the possibility of a national team call-up, Joo Min-gyu remains focused on his club commitments.

Ahead of a crucial AFC Champions League quarterfinal fixture against Jeonbuk Hyundai, Joo Min-gyu expressed confidence in Ulsan’s ability to succeed. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the team’s goals and playing his part without distractions. While acknowledging the pressure to deliver results as defending champions, Joo Min-gyu remains determined to achieve success in all competitions.

Regarding his future involvement with the national team, Joo Min-gyu indicated a reluctance to maintain contact with Coach Jeong, suggesting a shift in their relationship dynamics. His primary focus remains on performing for Ulsan, with personal connections taking a backseat for the time being. Joo Min-gyu’s dedication to his club’s success and his proud stance as a key player underline his commitment to achieving victory in upcoming challenges.
