Coach Hong Myung-bo reflects on Ulsan’s opening win and looks ahead to improvements

Ulsan HD coach Hong Myung-bo expressed his dissatisfaction despite the team’s 1-0 victory over Pohang Steelers in the opening match of the Hana One Q K League 1 2024 on March 1. The defending champion Ulsan secured the win with Ataru’s goal in the second half, starting their journey towards a possible third consecutive championship. However, the victory did not come easily, as Ulsan struggled to convert their chances, managing only one goal despite 12 attempts on target.

Coach Hong noted that the match was far from perfect, highlighting areas for improvement, especially in midfield play and execution in the attacking third. He emphasized the importance of adapting to new players and working on team chemistry to enhance overall performance in the upcoming matches.

Despite the room for improvement, Hong acknowledged the significance of securing three points in a crucial game like the season opener. He also praised the performances of new signings Hwang Seok-ho, Kim Min-woo, and Ko Seung-beom, who integrated well into the team and showed promise for the future.

In midfield, Lee Gyu-seong and Ko Seung-beom displayed good understanding and coordination, providing a solid foundation for the team’s play in the center of the pitch. Coach Hong highlighted their partnership as a key aspect for the team’s success moving forward.

Regarding injured player Kim Young-kwon, Hong expressed optimism about his physical condition, expecting more clarity on his status in the coming days. The coach also commended the enthusiastic support of the fans, noting the record attendance at Munsu Soccer Stadium for an opening game in club history.

In conclusion, Coach Hong thanked the Ulsan fans for their continuous support and commitment and promised to deliver entertaining and successful football for their enjoyment. He acknowledged the fans’ role in motivating the players and looked forward to their unwavering support throughout the season.
