Al-Hussein Irbid Team Dominates Jordanian Professional Football League: Eyes Title Win In Historic Season

The Al-Hussein Irbid team is experiencing a rejuvenation and unprecedented resurgence as they currently lead the Jordanian Professional Football League Championship for the 2023-2024 season. Dubbed “The Royal,” the team has maintained the top spot in the league for the first time since its establishment in 1964 by accumulating 34 points from 12 matches, winning 11 and drawing one against Al-Faisaly. This exceptional performance has positioned them as the front runners for the title, with Al-Faisaly and Al-Wehdat following closely at 27 points each, while Al-Ramtha sits in fourth with 19 points.

In a crucial development, Al-Wehdat’s stumble in a 0-0 draw with Al-Ahly has widened the gap between them and Al-Hussein to 7 points, with only 10 matches remaining in the season. Al-Wehdat’s missed opportunity to secure three consecutive titles will be a cause for regret as they let slip valuable points in recent fixtures, diminishing their chances and strengthening Al-Hussein’s title aspirations.

Al-Wehdat’s hopes are now largely pinned on a pending decision from the CAS court regarding an administrative error made by the Jordanian Federation in their match against Aqaba. A favorable ruling could see Al-Wehdat gain three additional points, reducing the gap between them and the league leaders to 5 points. The scoring average in the league stands at 2.30 goals per match, with three players currently sharing the top scorer position with 6 goals each.

The Jordanian League has been marked by defensive errors, with 9 own goals scored so far. Al-Ahly leads the unfortunate statistic, with 4 players, including goalkeeper Rabih Ezz El-Din, inadvertently finding the back of their own net. Al-Faisaly and Al-Wehdat have also contributed to this tally, underlining the unpredictable nature of the tournament.

The top scorers in the league include Mahmoud Mardi (Al-Hussein), Muhannad Abu Taha, and Bernard Henry (Al-Wehdat) with 6 goals each, followed by players such as Ahmed Abu Kabir (Sahab) and Rizq Bani Hani (Al-Faisaly) with notable goal tallies. The intense competition and unexpected outcomes of the Jordanian League continue to captivate football fans and players alike as the season progresses.
