Stallion Laguna FC Hands Davao Aguilas-UMak FC First Defeat in Copa Paulino Alcantara 2023

Stallion Laguna FC showcased their dominance by handing Davao Aguilas-UMak FC their first defeat of the Copa Paulino Alcantara 2023 with a resounding 4-0 victory at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. The match was highlighted by new signing Yuta Nomura’s standout performance, as he netted a hat-trick, with Abraham Placito adding a late free-kick goal for the horsemen, securing their second Group C win.

Nomura opened the scoring in the seventh minute, displaying his skill with a precise volley past Kenneth Guballo. He doubled the lead in the 29th minute, combining well with Juan Galeana-Trujillo inside the box. Despite attempts from Davao Aguilas to get on the scoresheet through Yannick Tuason and Marvin Angeles, they were unable to find the back of the net.

In the 74th minute, Nomura completed his hat-trick with another impressive volley, this time off a pass from Kouichi Belgira. Placito then sealed the deal with a fourth goal in the dying moments of the game, sneaking a low free kick past the defense in the 94th minute.

Meanwhile, Kaya FC-Iloilo continued their winning streak in Group A with a commanding 9-1 victory over Philippine Air Force FC. Daizo Horikoshi, Abou Sy, and Jarvey Gayoso each scored a brace, with Arnel Amita, Ricardo Sendra, and Justin Baas also getting on the scoresheet, propelling Kaya FC to nine points in the group standings, just behind Club de Futbol Manila by one point.

In the other Group C fixture, Mendiola FC secured a narrow 1-0 win against Philippine Army FC, courtesy of Jel Jel Sison’s goal in the 78th minute. This victory marked Mendiola’s first win of the tournament, giving them a crucial three points in their cup campaign.
