GFA Introduces Respetu Campaign to Promote Respect in Youth Football

The Guam Football Association is launching the Respetu Campaign to combat referee abuse in football, aligning with FIFA’s global initiative. The campaign, symbolized by a new logo, aims to instill respect at all levels of the sport, emphasizing fair play among players, coaches, and referees. President Valentino San Gil underscores the importance of maintaining a positive environment for all involved in the game.

Limited referee numbers at the elite level necessitate a supportive atmosphere for their growth from grassroots to professional leagues. GFA will promote the campaign through digital channels, featuring referees and fostering a sense of community within Guam’s football family. Signage at the GFA facility will further raise awareness, backed by cross-promotions with other GFA events and integration into educational programs.

Youth referee development receives backing from the Japan Football Association, with recent participation in the GFA Introductory Referee Course. Selected referees may officiate games in the upcoming Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth League, commencing with matches across various age groups this Saturday. Triple J Auto Group will also showcase their latest vehicles during the event.

Clubs with available spots in certain age categories welcome aspiring young footballers to join the league. To register, interested individuals should reach out to the participating clubs listed on GFA’s website. The league offers a platform for youth talent to thrive and contribute to the local football scene, highlighting Guam’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect and sportsmanship across all levels of the game.
