Kanazawa Stadium’s Inaugural Match Sends Support to Earthquake-Affected Areas

The inaugural match at Kanazawa Stadium, Hokuriku’s first soccer-dedicated venue, carried a profound message of support for areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The ¥8.2 billion Kanazawa GoGo Curry Stadium now serves as the home ground for the J3 League team Zweigen Kanazawa.

Ahead of the match, players from both Zweigen Kanazawa and the opposing team, Kataller Toyama, urged donations to aid earthquake recovery efforts. Both teams, having experienced the earthquake’s impact, donned charity T-shirts with messages of solidarity for the affected regions. A moment of silence paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster.

Zweigen Kanazawa’s captain, Daisho Hatao, voiced their commitment to being supporters for those grappling with the aftermath of the earthquake. He expressed the team’s dedication to bringing smiles back to the faces of the affected people.

Despite Kanazawa’s aspirations for victory, the match ended with a 1-4 defeat, securing only one goal from a penalty kick. However, the loss did not overshadow the collective spirit of unity and support for earthquake recovery that permeated the stadium.

The significance of the inaugural match extended beyond the scoreboard, emphasizing the power of sports to rally communities and provide solace in challenging times. The event at Kanazawa Stadium served as a poignant reminder of resilience, solidarity, and the enduring spirit of those striving for recovery in the face of adversity.
