Top Foreign Players in Vegalta Sendai’s History in J League

The J League kicked off on February 23 with an even start as no team has managed to secure consecutive victories so far. Expectations are high for a challenging season ahead.

Among the standout foreign players in Vegalta Sendai’s history, we have selected five top performers.

First up is Marcos, a Brazilian striker who played for Vegalta Sendai from 2001 to 2004. Known for leading the team to promotion to J1, Marcos scored an impressive 34 goals in 40 appearances in his debut season. Despite injury setbacks in his second year, he still managed to shine with 18 goals in J1.

Next, we have Borges, another Brazilian talent who only spent one season at Vegalta Sendai in 2006. Despite the brief stint, Borges showcased his skill by netting 26 goals in 41 games in J2 before moving on to play in Brazil.

Thiago Neves, a member of the Brazilian trio at Vegalta Sendai in 2006, also left a mark during his time at the club. While on loan from Paraná Clube, Nevis displayed remarkable left-footed technique and went on to have a successful career back in Brazil.

Liang Yuki, originally from North Korea, earned recognition as a Vegalta Sendai legend during his extensive tenure at the club from 2004 to 2019, with a brief return in 2022-2023. A versatile attacking midfielder, Liang played a pivotal role for 16 seasons and is now involved in club coordination.

Lastly, Wilson, who joined Vegalta Sendai in 2012 from a Chinese league team, made a significant impact during his five-year spell. Notably, Wilson was the only player named in Vegalta Sendai’s J1 Best Eleven and played a crucial role in the team’s success post the Great East Japan Earthquake.

These foreign players have left a lasting legacy at Vegalta Sendai, contributing to the club’s history and success on the field.
