Albi L Concedes Penalty, Fails to Win Second Game – Niigata Soccer News
In the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, Albirex Niigata faced Gamba Osaka on March 2nd in their second league match of the season. After a come-from-behind win in their opener, Niigata aimed for consecutive victories but fell short in a hard-fought battle.
Early on, Niigata faced a dangerous counterattack in the 27th minute of the first half, but vice-captain Arai came to the rescue with a crucial clearance. Despite their defensive efforts, Niigata struggled to create scoring opportunities in the first half, failing to register a single shot.
In the second half, Niigata had a promising free kick opportunity which led to their first shot of the game. Despite some good link-up play between Matsuda and Hasegawa, Niigata was denied by the opposing keeper. Following a controversial penalty call in the 26th minute of the second half, Gamba Osaka converted the spot-kick to take the lead.
Niigata pushed for an equalizer in the remaining minutes, but Hasegawa’s free kick attempt couldn’t find the target, resulting in a disappointing 0-1 loss. Manager Rikizo Matsuhashi acknowledged Gamba Osaka’s strong performance and expressed his disappointment at Niigata’s inability to create chances.
On the women’s side, Albirex Niigata Ladies secured a 2-1 victory over Sanfrecce Hiroshima Regina in a WE League match on March 3rd. Goals from Takigawa and Sugita propelled Niigata to a crucial win as they looked to build momentum for the restart of the season.
Looking ahead, Albirex Niigata will face Nagoya Grampus in their next J1 League match on March 9th, while Albirex Niigata Ladies will take on Nippon Television Tokyo Verdy Beleza on March 10th.
