The BC Jindal Group, through its subsidiary Jindal Football, has officially acquired the sporting license for Indian Super League (ISL) team Hyderabad FC. This move signifies the group’s first foray into Indian sports, with an overarching aim to elevate the stature of sports in India and to create opportunities for young athletes to develop and compete on the global stage.

Hyderabad FC, often referred to as the Nawabs, is set to begin its upcoming ISL season with an away match against Bengaluru FC on September 19. Since its inception on August 27, 2019, the club has rapidly established itself as a formidable force in Indian football, notably winning the ISL championship in the 2021-22 season by defeating Kerala Blasters in a memorable final.

The team plays its home matches at the G.M.C Balayogi Athletic Stadium, situated in the bustling suburb of Gachibowli in Hyderabad.

In a statement from the new ownership, a spokesperson for Hyderabad FC emphasized the group’s commitment to transforming Indian football. “India, with its 1.4 billion population, is a sleeping giant in the football world. Our investment in Hyderabad FC is driven by a deep desire to identify and overcome the challenges facing Indian football. We are dedicated to nurturing local talent and contributing to the growth of this beautiful game in India,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson further articulated the long-term vision: “We aspire to see Indian players competing at the highest international levels and dream of the day when India will feature in the FIFA World Cup finals. This vision is what drives our efforts in Indian football.”
