Perth Glory Signs Ecuadorian International Luis Cangá

Perth Glory has made a significant addition to their squad for the 2024/25 A-League season by signing experienced Ecuadorian center-back Luis Cangá. The 29-year-old defender has penned a one-year deal with the Australian club, bringing a wealth of experience from his stints in Ecuador’s LigaPro Serie A, Brazil’s Vasco de Gama, and South America’s top club competition, the Copa Libertadores.

Canga has over 200 appearances in Ecuador’s top division and earned caps for the Ecuadorian national team at both youth and senior levels, with his first senior appearance coming at just 19 in a 2014 win over Bolivia. Now, Canga is ready to establish himself as a key player for Perth Glory.

“I am very happy to be joining a great club like Perth Glory,” Canga said. “I’m excited to link up with my teammates and coach David Zdrilic. I am committed to helping the club achieve its objectives this season.”

Stan Lazaridis, Perth Glory’s Football Director, emphasized the importance of Canga’s signing. “Luis brings a huge level of experience and physicality to our defense. His international and club-level experience will help strengthen our backline.”

Head Coach David Zdrilic echoed these sentiments, praising Canga’s ability to handle the demands of elite football. “Luis is a physically imposing defender who’s also comfortable on the ball. His experience playing against some of South America’s best players will be invaluable for us.”

Canga began his professional career with LDU Quito and later helped Delfin SC win the Ecuadorian league title in 2019. His time at Vasco de Gama in Brazil added to his credentials before returning to Ecuador, where he won another championship with Aucas in 2022.
