Norshahrul Idlan Talaha Joins KL City FC as Assistant Coach Under 23 Team

Former Malaysian national team striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, affectionately known as Matyo, has taken on a new role as an assistant coach with KL City FC. Specifically, he will be working with the KL City Extension team, which caters to players under the age of 23, for the upcoming 2024/25 season. This appointment was made official by the management of The City Boys.

The announcement of Norshahrul’s addition to the coaching staff was met with great excitement by Kuala Lumpur City Football Club. The legendary Malaysian footballer, who played a pivotal role in the national team’s triumph at the AFF Suzuki Cup, brings with him a wealth of experience and a winning mentality. Throughout his career, Norshahrul has helped secure three Super League titles, two Malaysia Cup titles, and two FA Cup titles for his respective clubs.

Moreover, Norshahrul’s individual accolades, including three consecutive Most Valuable Player awards at the National Football Awards, attest to his exceptional skills and dedication to the sport. The club expressed their well wishes to Matyo in his new coaching role, recognizing his significant contributions to Malaysian football.

The news of Norshahrul’s appointment as assistant coach was initially unveiled by sports journalist Fina Nasrom from Astro Arena. It was revealed that Norshahrul had accepted a coaching position with a club based in the Klang Valley, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his football career.

As a result of Norshahrul’s move to the coaching staff, questions have arisen within the KL City supporter base regarding the identity of the new KL City Extension coach. The position was previously held by Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail, who has since been promoted to the role of senior squad coach for The City Boys’ 2024/25 season. Wan Rohaimi’s assistance will be crucial in supporting the team’s Croatian manager, Miroslav Kuljanac, as they strive for success in the upcoming campaign.

With Norshahrul Idlan Talaha’s appointment as assistant coach, KL City FC is poised to benefit from his expertise and leadership both on and off the field, further strengthening the club’s coaching staff and its pursuit of excellence in Malaysian football.
