Exciting Start to Expanded 2024 Philippines Football League Season
The 2024 Philippines Football League Season kicks off this weekend with a full slate of matches in Manila and Cebu. Defending champions Kaya FC Iloilo will make their season debut on Sunday, but fans can expect an exciting opening day with three matches scheduled at the Rizal Memorial Stadium and another in Cebu as Dynamic Herb hosts Loyola.
Manila Digger, a new team founded by Chinese football enthusiasts, will face off against Philippine Army in the season’s first match at 3 p.m. Both teams are eager to start strong, with Digger boasting a mix of local and foreign talent while Army relies on former collegiate standouts.
In the 5:30 p.m. match, Mendiola FC 1991 will take on Philippine Air Force, a former powerhouse looking to reclaim its position in Philippine football. Mendiola, comprised of San Beda alumni and NCAA champions, finished fourth last season with 15 points on five victories.
The last match on Saturday features Tuloy FC against Maharlika Taguig FC. Maharlika, an expansion club in 2020, aims to make a mark this season after finishing fifth last year. Tuloy, based in Alabang, Muntinlupa, is known for developing young talents through the Tuloy Foundation.
Sunday promises three more exciting matches, including a showdown between Kaya and United City FC at 5:30 p.m. UCFC, returning to the league after a hiatus, will reignite their rivalry with Kaya, the reigning champions. Garelli United FC will face a rejuvenated Stallion FC, while Manila Montet FC makes its debut against One Taguig FC in the evening match.
Football fans in the Philippines can look forward to a thrilling start to the expanded 2024 PFL season, with new teams, returning contenders, and fierce competition on display across the league.
