FC Goa Defeats Bengaluru FC 2-1 to Climb to Third Spot in ISL Standings

FC Goa secured a crucial 2-1 triumph over Bengaluru FC in a riveting clash at the Fatorda Stadium in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24, propelling them to the third position in the standings with 36 points from 19 matches. The Gaurs bounced back emphatically from a recent three-game losing skid during February.

Initially, Bengaluru FC took the lead within two minutes of kick-off with a swift move orchestrated by Suresh Singh Wangjam and Chingangbam Shivaldo Singh, piercing through the formidable FC Goa defense. Shivaldo demonstrated his attacking prowess but missed an opportunity to double their advantage shortly after.

FC Goa gradually found their footing in the game as Noah Sadaoui and Brandon Fernandes threatened the Bengaluru FC goal. The breakthrough arrived in the 22nd minute when Boris Singh’s strike deflected off Odei Onaindia and beat Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, leveling the score for the Gaurs.

The second half saw Bengaluru FC reduced to 10 men after Suresh was shown a red card, tipping the scales in FC Goa’s favor. With a dominant 68.2% possession and persistent attacking, the Gaurs found the winner in the 81st minute through Boris Singh, who converted a cross from Borja Herrera.

Boris Singh was the standout performer of the match, showcasing stellar passing accuracy, defensive contributions, and ultimately securing the victory with his decisive goal. FC Goa will face Hyderabad FC next on April 5, while Bengaluru FC is set to take on Odisha FC on March 30.

In a nutshell, FC Goa’s resilient comeback, marked by Boris Singh’s heroics, sealed a vital victory against Bengaluru FC, solidifying their position in the standings and setting the stage for upcoming clashes in the ISL.
