In the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, Albirex Niigata faced Gamba Osaka on March 2nd in their second league match of the season. After a come-from-behind win in their opener, Niigata aimed for consecutive victories but fell short in a hard-fought battle.

Early on, Niigata faced a dangerous counterattack in the 27th minute of the first half, but vice-captain Arai came to the rescue with a crucial clearance. Despite their defensive efforts, Niigata struggled to create scoring opportunities in the first half, failing to register a single shot.

In the second half, Niigata had a promising free kick opportunity which led to their first shot of the game.
