Japanese Teams Set to Participate in ACLE and ACL2 for 2024-25 Season
The Japan Football Association (JFA) has made official the selection of Japanese teams for the upcoming AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) and AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) for the 2024-25 season. In a significant reorganization, the AFC will introduce three tiers of competition, including ACLE, ACL2, and AFC Challenge League (ACGL).
For the 2024-25 season, the ACLE will feature Vissel Kobe, the 2023 J1 League champions, alongside Kawasaki Frontale, winners of the 103rd Emperor’s Cup, and Yokohama F. Marinos, runners-up in the 2023 J1 League. On the other hand, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, who finished third in the 2023 J1 League, will be the sole representative in the ACL2 competition.
This evolution in the AFC club competition structure marks a new era for Japanese football, with the allocation of “3” slots for the ACLE and “1” slot for ACL2.
