2024 FAS/AFC ‘A’ Diploma Coaching Course Part 1 Concludes with Enthusiastic Participants

Singapore’s Coaching Education Department (CED) recently wrapped up the initial segment of the 2024 FAS/AFC ‘A’ Diploma Coaching Course, an event attended by 24 participants, including notable Singapore internationals Fazrul Nawaz s/o Shahul Hameed, Indra Sahdan Bin Daud, and Mohammad Shahril Bin Ishak. This five-day course, held at Jalan Besar Stadium from 19 to 23 February 2024, catered to coaches aiming to progress in an amateur club or elite youth setting.

Lead Coach Developer Philippe Aw, along with Assistant Coach Developer Subramani s/o Shunmugham, facilitated the course’s immersive learning atmosphere, focusing on self-directed learning and continuous improvement using the andragogy learning strategy. The curriculum encompassed theoretical and practical components, exploring various subjects like “Establishing a Playing Philosophy,” “Theories of Coaching,” and “Understanding The Current Generation of Players.”

Additionally, guest speakers such as Marcus Lee from the National Youth Sports Institute and Loh Ngiap Tai from the FAS Coach Developer team provided insights on pertinent topics like “Injury Prevention Exercises” and “Emotions in Football,” enriching the overall learning experience.

Participants, including Tan Guo Xiong and Nor Azli Bin Md Yusoff, expressed satisfaction and gratitude towards the course, highlighting the empowering and enriching nature of their journey. The course’s emphasis on practical learning and engaging sessions left a lasting impact, with individuals like Tengku Mushadad Bin Tengku Mohamed eager to apply their newfound knowledge in their coaching environments.

Lead Coach Developer Philippe Aw emphasized the importance of fostering a positive learning environment and seizing coachable moments to aid participants’ development. As Part 1 of the course concludes, attendees now look forward to implementing their skills in real-world coaching scenarios before continuing their educational journey with Part 2 commencing in May 2024.
