Owner of KDA FC Admits Salary Arrears Issue Impacting Team Performance
The owner of Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar, has acknowledged the team’s struggles with salary arrears impacting their performance in the Super League. In a press conference, Daud issued an apology to coach Nafuzi Zain, staff, players, supporters, and fans for the financial challenges affecting the club’s operations.
He took full responsibility for the financial difficulties facing KDA FC, attributing them to limited income sources such as stock development contributions, sponsorships, ticket sales, and merchandise revenue. Daud revealed that salaries for July 2023 have been paid, with efforts underway to clear arrears from August 2023 by December. The September 2023 salary is also scheduled to be settled later this year.
Amidst the financial turmoil, central defender Rodney Celvin opted to terminate his contract prematurely, reportedly to join Kuching City on a 2-year deal in the upcoming season. Speculations on social media suggest that additional players from KDA FC may depart for other teams next season as well.
Despite the challenges, Daud remains optimistic about resolving the salary issues and improving the club’s financial stability moving forward. While the exact amount of debt incurred by KDA FC remains undisclosed, efforts are being made to address the outstanding payments and ensure a smoother financial operation in the future. The owner’s transparency and commitment to rectifying the situation reflect a sense of accountability and determination to overcome the current obstacles facing the football club.
