Nepal Dominates West Asian Women’s Championship Group 2 Matches

Results of Group 2 Matches in the Eighth West Asian Women’s Championship on February 22, 2024.

On February 22, 2024, the Eighth West Asian Women’s Championship saw the completion of the second-round matches in Group 2. Hosted by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, the tournament will run until February 29th.

The day’s matches took place at the secondary field of the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Nepal faced off against Iraq, securing a resounding 5-0 victory with Sabitra Bhandari netting five goals in the 14th, 16th, 37th, 45th, and 80th minutes.

In the second match, Palestine emerged victorious over Syria with a narrow 1-0 win. Miraal Qassis scored the lone goal in the 88th minute, securing the crucial three points.

As a result of these outcomes, Nepal leads Group 2 with 6 points, closely followed by Palestine also on 6 points. Syria occupies third place, while Iraq sits at the bottom without any points. In their previous encounters, Nepal bested Syria 4-1, and Palestine defeated Iraq 3-0.

Looking ahead, the tournament continues on February 23 with Lebanon taking on Jordan at 5:00 PM Saudi time, followed by the Saudi Arabia-Guam match at 8:00 PM. In Group 1, Jordan currently holds the top spot with 6 points, trailed by Lebanon also on 6 points. Guam and Saudi Arabia follow in third and fourth place, respectively.

During the initial rounds, Lebanon triumphed over Guam 4-3, while Jordan secured a 3-2 win against Saudi Arabia. In the latest round, Jordan emerged victorious over Guam with a 3-0 scoreline, and Lebanon edged past Saudi Arabia with a 3-2 win.

The group stage will conclude on February 24 with matches between Syria and Iraq, as well as Palestine and Nepal. Following a brief break on February 25 and 26, the quarter-final matches will kick off on February 27, leading up to the final showdown on February 29.
