Lion City Sailors Make Statement with Signing of Bart Ramselaar from Dutch Eredivisie outfit Utrecht
The Lion City Sailors made a bold statement by securing the services of attacking midfielder Bart Ramselaar from Dutch club Utrecht. The 27-year-old, with previous experience at PSV Eindhoven and three caps for the Netherlands, signed a deal with the Singapore Premier League (SPL) outfit until the end of the 2025-26 season for a reported fee of approximately €1.5 million.
Ramselaar expressed his excitement about the move, viewing it as a chance to challenge himself in a foreign league and contribute to the Sailors’ ambitious project. The midfielder aims to bring his experience to the team and hopes to showcase attractive football to attract more supporters to the stadium.
Sailors coach Aleksandar Rankovic, who previously worked with Ramselaar at Utrecht, hailed the Dutchman as a fantastic addition to the squad. Rankovic highlighted Ramselaar’s speed, intelligence in the final third, and his potential to bolster the team’s attacking options alongside key players like Maxime Lestienne, Shawal Anuar, and Richairo Zivkovic.
Dutch journalist Jeroen Kapteijns described Ramselaar as a highly skilled player with impressive technical abilities, noting that the reported transfer fee was reasonable considering the player’s pedigree. Ramselaar’s desire to seek new challenges abroad and showcase his talent on a different stage led him to embrace the opportunity presented by the Sailors.
During the current Eredivisie season, Ramselaar has mainly featured as a substitute, starting only three games out of 11 for Utrecht. Nevertheless, his arrival in Singapore is viewed as a significant development for the SPL, marking a substantial investment by the Sailors in securing a top-quality player from a prestigious European club.
With the addition of Ramselaar, the Sailors have underlined their intent to compete at the highest level in the SPL and reclaim the league title they last won in 2021. As the club continues to strengthen its squad with top talents from around the world, the upcoming season promises to be an exciting and competitive campaign for the Lion City Sailors and their supporters.
