Jordanian National Team Leads Group A in West Asian Women’s Football Championship
The Jordanian national team has solidified their position at the top of Group A in the ongoing eighth West Asian Women’s Football Championship in Saudi Arabia. They secured a 2-0 victory over Lebanon, with goals from Zeina Hassan and Lana Firas in the 65th and 81st minutes, respectively. The match took place on February 23 at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
In another Group A fixture, Guam triumphed over the Saudi team with a score of 2-0, courtesy of goals from Maria Annaya in the 22nd and 42nd minutes.
The Jordanian team finished at the summit of Group A, amassing a perfect 9 points, followed by Lebanon in second place with 6 points. These two teams have clinched spots in the semi-finals. Guam secures third place with 3 points, while the Saudi team languishes in fourth.
The group stage will come to a close on February 24, with the final round of Group B matches. Syria will take on Iraq at 5:00 PM, followed by Palestine facing off against Nepal at 8:00 PM.
Currently, Nepal leads Group B with 6 points, closely trailed by Palestine in second place. Syria sits third, while Iraq remains at the bottom without any points.
Following a brief hiatus on February 25 and 26, the tournament will resume on February 27 with the semi-final clashes. The winners from each group will battle it out in the final showdown set for February 29.
