Saudi golfer Faisal Salhab shines in opening round at $2m International Series Oman
Saudi golfer Faisal Salhab made an impressive start at the $2 million International Series Oman, navigating the challenging Al-Mouj Golf Club course with a solid 1-under par 71 in the opening round. Despite facing two bogeys, including a tricky three-putt on the eighth green, Salhab showcased his accuracy by hitting 15 greens in regulation and missing only two fairways throughout the day.
Joining Salhab were fellow Saudi professionals Saud Al-Sharif and Othman Almulla, who also had promising starts. Al-Sharif managed to stay under par until a late double bogey pushed him to 1-over, while Almulla recovered from a shaky start to finish at 6-over par after a triple bogey on the 16th hole.
Reflecting on his performance, Salhab expressed optimism for the future of Saudi professional golfers, emphasizing the hard work put in during the offseason with his coach and team. He highlighted the positive results already showing and anticipated a breakthrough year for the Saudi contingent on the international stage.
Speaking about the shift in mentality within the group, Salhab emphasized the importance of playing fearlessly and aiming for success rather than settling for mere cuts. His fearless approach was evident during the round when he rebounded from setbacks to clinch a crucial birdie on the 17th hole.
Despite having better rounds in the past, Salhab was content with his performance in Muscat, considering the tough conditions at Al-Mouj Golf Club. He credited his solid play to sticking to his processes, maintaining a positive mindset, and pushing himself to excel on the course.
Looking ahead, Salhab acknowledged the need to continue working hard and believing in his abilities, aiming for consistent success in future tournaments. His resilience and determination on the golf course reflect a promising trajectory for Saudi golfers, setting the stage for potential breakthroughs in the year ahead.
