Friday in the A-Leagues: How to Watch Tonight’s Double-Header & the Newest Matilda

Round 17 of the Isuzu UTE A-League and Liberty A-League is set to kick off with a double-header on Friday night. Fans can tune in to aleagues.com.au for all the goals and match highlights throughout the day.

Melbourne Victory vs Western Sydney Wanderers

The Liberty A-League match between Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers will take place at the Home of the Matildas. Melbourne Victory, currently in fifth place, will be looking to continue their five-game unbeaten streak. However, they will have to be wary of their previous home loss to Western United. The last time these two teams met, the Wanderers emerged victorious with a 2-0 win. A win in this match will ensure the Wanderers finish the round inside the top four.

The Wanderers possess the third-best defense in the competition, conceding only 19 goals in 17 games. They will need to be on guard against Victory striker Emily Gielnik, who is just one goal away from reaching 50 Liberty A-League goals. Melbourne Victory also has a milestone within reach, with one more goal needed to reach 350 goals in A-League history.

Western United vs Newcastle Jets

In the Isuzu UTE A-League, Western United will host Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park. All eyes will be on Newcastle Jets’ Golden Boot contender, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos. He has been in exceptional form, scoring five goals in his last four games and providing one assist. With 13 goals this season, he is on track to break the record for most goals by a Jets player in a single campaign. However, Stamatelopoulos will be hoping for a better outing against his former club, as he was sent off in their previous meeting, which resulted in a 2-0 win for Newcastle Jets.

Both teams will be looking to return to winning ways. Western United is currently at the bottom of the table with a six-game winless streak, while the Newcastle Jets are in 10th place and on a three-match drought. John Aloisi’s Western United will be buoyed by the news that they will soon play their first A-League fixture in Tarneit.
