Marquez Lopez extends coaching tenure until 2026, leading Qatar after AFC Asian Cup triumph.
The 62-year-old Spaniard, pivotal in securing Qatar’s AFC Asian Cup title, signed the contract, expressing gratitude to Al Wakrah SC for their cooperation.
Lopez, formerly managing Qatar Stars League’s Al Wakrah, took the reins just before AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
Despite time constraints, he orchestrated Qatar’s undefeated run to claim the title, triumphing 3-1 against Jordan in the final.
Qatar Football Association looks forward to more successes under Mr. Lopez. Immediate focus shifts to the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027, where Qatar, topping Group A with a flawless six points, faces Kuwait in consecutive March clashes.
