Former Harimau Malaya Striker Norshahrul “Matyo” Talaha Set to Hang Up Boots and Pursue Coaching Career

Former Harimau Malaya striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, also known as Matyo, is reportedly set to retire from professional football. The revelation came from Astro Arena reporter Fina Nasrom, who disclosed that Matyo will transition into coaching. He has accepted an offer to become an assistant coach for an under-23 squad in the Klang Valley region, although the specific team was not disclosed.

If this reported career shift materializes, Norshahrul will join a growing trend of former national players transitioning into coaching roles for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Among them is former national center back Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak, who recently became an assistant coach at JDT under Hector Bidoglio. S. Subramaniam has also taken on an assistant coaching role for A1 Semi Pro League team Melaka FC under K. Devan’s guidance.

Apart from Aidil and Subramaniam, Norshahrul’s twin Zaquan Adha has expressed a keen interest in coaching while continuing his duties as a football expert for Astro Arena. Both Norshahrul and Zaquan are part of the Astro Arena football expert panel covering the 2024/25 Malaysia League (M League), alongside Mahali Jasuli, Razman Roslan, and Safee Sali.

Norshahrul’s playing career has seen him represent various clubs, including Harini FT, JDT, Kelantan FC, Terengganu FC, ATM, Perak FC, Negeri Sembilan FC, UPB-MyTeam, Sri Pahang FC, BG Pathum United, Melaka United, and Sarawak United. His vast experience and knowledge of the game make him a valuable addition to the coaching fraternity.
