Kaya FC-Iloilo Dominates DB Garelli United in 12-0 Victory on April 13, 2024
Kaya FC-Iloilo asserted their dominance in a 12-0 rout against DB Garelli United in a league matchup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The victory tied the record for the second-highest winning margin in league history, matching a feat achieved by United City FC (formerly Ceres-Negros FC) in a previous match against Philippine Air Force.
Coming off a strong showing in the AFC Champions League, Kaya wasted no time in asserting their superiority on the field. Quick goals by Kaishu Yamazaki, Shuto Komaki, and Jarvey Gayoso put them in a commanding 3-0 lead early in the match. The Japanese duo of Yamazaki and Komaki continued their stellar performance with additional goals, while Jan Melliza added a penalty to give Kaya a 6-0 advantage at halftime.
Despite efforts from DB Garelli United, including attempts by Joules Koumoin and Jangobah Johnson, Kaya’s defense led by goalkeeper Kenry Balobo remained solid. Former UAAP standouts Gayoso and Melliza shined with a brace each, while Robert Lopez Mendy also contributed two goals off the bench.
Jarvey Gayoso capped off a stellar performance by securing the top scorer and Man of the Match honors with goals in the 67th minute, 86th minute, and in stoppage time. The starting lineups for both teams showcased the talents on display, with standout performances from players like Komaki, Yamazaki, and Melliza for Kaya FC-Iloilo.
The comprehensive victory highlighted Kaya’s offensive prowess and solid defense, setting a high standard for the rest of the league. With this commanding win, Kaya FC-Iloilo made a strong statement early in the season, showcasing their title ambitions and ability to dominate on the field.
