Teams in the Super League Competition for 2024/25 Season Potential to Decrease

The upcoming 2024/25 Super League season in Malaysia may see a decrease in the number of participating teams, as confirmed by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) in a recent announcement. Originally slated for 13 teams, including Kelantan FC, the league could potentially see a smaller roster as the competition draws near.

Chief Executive Officer of the MFL, Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, had previously stated that Kelantan FC’s relegation to the A1 Semi Pro League would leave 13 teams vying for football supremacy in the league. With no promotion from the M3 League, the top tier of Malaysian football might be comprised of just 13 teams this season.

However, the final composition of the league is still up in the air, as the MFL disclosed that the status of the 13 teams in the Super League is not yet set in stone. Any decisions made by the First Instance Body (FIB) could potentially alter the lineup, prompting the MFL to adjust the league calendar accordingly.

Despite previous concerns regarding player transfer restrictions, teams like KL City and Kedah have managed to navigate their way out of any potential punishments. As it stands, all 13 teams are gearing up for the upcoming season, awaiting any final updates from the MFL.

The Super League is set to kick off with an exciting match between the reigning champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), and Selangor, the runners-up from the previous season. Fans can expect an intense showdown at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on 10 May 2024, marking the start of another thrilling season of Malaysian football.
