Taiwan’s CPBL Announces Coaching Staff for Premier12 Tournament

The CPBL has finalized the coaching staff for Taiwan’s national baseball team ahead of the upcoming Premier12 tournament in November. Tseng Hao-chu was previously announced as the team manager, with Uni-President Lions coach Kao Chih-kang stepping in as the head coach. Former MLB pitcher Wang Chien-ming, currently a pitching coach for the CTBC Brothers, will oversee the national team’s pitchers. Brothers’ batting coach Chen Chiang-ho and former manager Peng Cheng-min have been assigned as the infield and batting coaches, respectively, while Wei Chuan Dragons coach Chang Chien-ming will focus on base running and outfield play.

Tseng proposed the coaching lineup, which was approved by the CPBL’s Premier12 preparatory committee. He had previously collaborated with all the coaches at the 2019 World Baseball Classic, with Wang being the only one he worked with during the 2019 Premier12. Tseng also mentioned the possibility of adding more coaches if needed.

In preparation for the tournament, the CPBL is set to finalize a list of 80 candidates for the national team, consisting of both professional and amateur players. The next preparatory committee meeting is scheduled for mid-next month to discuss this further. Additionally, plans are in motion for a scouting trip overseas for Tseng, although the dates are yet to be confirmed.

The Premier12 tournament is slated to take place from November 10 to 24 and will showcase the top 12 national baseball teams in the world. Taiwan, part of Group B, will face tough competition on home soil against Japan, South Korea, Cuba, Australia, and the Dominican Republic. The goal is to secure one of the two Super Round berths available.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming Premier12 tournament, the CPBL is leaving no stone unturned in preparing Taiwan’s national baseball team for a competitive and thrilling campaign on the international stage. Stay tuned for more updates as the team gears up for this prestigious event.
