Sultan Ibrahim Stadium to Host Epic Clash between JDT and Selangor in 2024 Sumbangsih Cup
Sultan Ibrahim Stadium will host the highly anticipated clash between JDT and Selangor in the upcoming 2024 Sumbangsih Cup, as announced by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) earlier this week. The Sumbangsih Cup is scheduled for early May and serves as the opening event for the 2024-2025 Super League season, with the Contribution Match, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup 2024, set to take place on May 10, 2024.
This fixture marks the commencement of the Super League competition, with match points from the Sumbangsih Cup counting towards the teams’ tally for the new season. Reigning champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim, will face off against Selangor FC, the runners-up from the previous season, at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, the venue of the 2023 Super League champions.
The MFL outlined that the winner of the Sumbangsih Cup will be decided through a full 90-minute game or a penalty shootout if the match ends in a draw. However, only points obtained during regular time will contribute to the teams’ overall standings for the season.
In the previous season, JDT clinched the 2023 Contribution Cup title by defeating Terengganu 2-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. Goals from Juan Muniz and Bergson Da Silva propelled JDT to victory, securing their status as champions.
This year’s Sumbangsih Cup promises an exciting clash between two formidable sides as they vie for an early advantage in the Super League standings. The upcoming match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium is sure to witness fierce competition and thrilling football action, setting the stage for an eventful season ahead.
