Midfielder Marin Pilj Prioritizes Spirit Over Height for Terengganu FC

Terengganu FC’s Croatian midfielder, Marin Pilj, emphasizes the importance of seriousness and fighting spirit over his height on the field. Despite standing at 1.65 cm tall, Pilj has shown that he can hold his own in the midfield, showcasing his skill and goal-scoring ability in a recent pre-season friendly against Negeri Sembilan FC.

The 27-year-old, formerly of NK Osijek, believes that body size is no obstacle for him to contribute effectively to Terengganu’s performance in the upcoming 2024/25 season. Pilj acknowledges his height but is confident in his strength and abilities to support the team.

In a statement to Nadi Arena, he stated, “I need time and matches to be clear with the football that is here. I know I’m short (but) I’m also strong (to help the team). I think the soul is the most important thing (than) the size of the body that is seen is not important.”

Pilj is one of three new import players for Terengganu this season, alongside Dutch center-back Matthew Steenvorden and former Kedah Darul Aman FC captain Manuel Ott. The team has also retained Croatian forward Ivan Mamut and Uzbek midfielder Nurillo Tukhtasinov, who proved themselves during the 2023 season.

With a mix of new signings and familiar faces, Terengganu FC looks poised to make an impact in the upcoming season. Pilj’s determination and skills, regardless of his height, will undoubtedly play a significant role in the team’s quest for success on the field.
