Football Australia’s Match Review Panel (MRP Upholds Suspension of Sydney FC Forward Robert Mak and Issues Disciplinary Notice to Ulises Dávila.
Football Australia’s Match Review Panel (MRP) has upheld Sydney FC forward Robert Mak’s suspension following an incident with Newcastle Jets defender Phillip Cancar in the Isuzu UTE A-League. Mak will miss the Sydney Derby against Western Sydney Wanderers due to a one-game ban.
On the other hand, Western United captain Josh Risdon will sit out the match against Central Coast Mariners after accumulating his 11th yellow card of the season. The MRP also issued a disciplinary notice to Macarthur FC captain Ulises Dávila for his involvement in an incident with Risdon.
In the recent match between Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC, the Jets emerged victorious with a 3-1 win. Mak received a straight red card in the 37th minute, leading to his suspension. Despite Sydney’s appeal, the MRP decided to uphold Mak’s ban, categorizing the offense as “serious unsporting conduct.”
Sydney FC coach Ufuk Talay expressed disappointment over Mak missing the Sydney Derby but stressed the team would move on and focus on the upcoming game. Meanwhile, Dávila came under scrutiny for an altercation in Macarthur FC’s match against Western United, where he raised his hand to Risdon’s throat.
The MRP identified this incident as a “Citation Incident,” prompting a disciplinary notice to show cause for Dávila to explain his actions. The panel is set to review the matter again and consider any submissions from Dávila on April 9.
Overall, the MRP’s decisions have significant implications for Sydney FC, Western United, and Macarthur FC, with key players facing suspensions in crucial upcoming fixtures. The outcome of these reviews will shape the teams’ lineups and strategies moving forward in the A-League.
