At a vibrant Bangkok stadium, the “Rabbit Girls” of BG Pathum United bring energy and support to their team, standing out as the sole female promoters in the Thai football league. These women, commonly referred to as “pretties,” are often hired for promotional roles in various industries in Thailand. Despite lingering gender stereotypes in the country, particularly within football fandom, the Rabbit Girls are breaking barriers.

To become a Rabbit Girl, one must be unmarried and under the age of 30. BGPU emphasizes that these women are more than just cheerleaders; they serve as ambassadors for the club. Phatlita Lertphaholphat, known as “BB,” has been a part of the team for six years. Before matches, she spends hours perfecting her appearance, investing significant funds in beauty products to maintain a polished look.

BB, with a substantial following on Instagram, actively promotes the team and sponsors both in person and on social media. Beyond adding vitality to the stadium atmosphere, the Rabbit Girls help create a sense of politeness in the predominantly male crowd. Their involvement extends to environmental initiatives, such as encouraging recycling and promoting shared transportation to games.

BG Pathum United initiated the use of promotional women in 2009, sparking a trend that other major Thai clubs followed. However, financial constraints have forced some clubs to disband their cheer squads to reduce costs. In contrast, BGPU remains committed to their promoters, considering them indispensable to the club’s identity.

As the team currently holds the fourth position in Thai League 1, the Rabbit Girls continue to play a pivotal role as club representatives and supporters. Their dedication and enthusiasm add a unique dimension to the football experience, bridging the gap between fans and the club while promoting environmental awareness and responsible behavior.
